Acts 5:1–11 — Ananias and Sapphira

Ananias and Sapphira sell property.
They keep back part of the proceeds while presenting their gift.
Peter says Ananias has lied to the Holy Spirit.
The property and money were his to control; the giving was voluntary.
The sin was the lie, not keeping part of the money.
Ananias falls down and dies.
About three hours later, Sapphira repeats the lie.
Peter says they agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord.
Sapphira also falls down and dies.
Great fear comes upon the whole church.

Acts 5:12–16 — Signs and Growth

Many signs and wonders are done by the apostles.
The believers gather at Solomon’s Portico.
The people hold them in high esteem.
More believers are added to the Lord.
Multitudes of both men and women believe.
The sick are carried into the streets.
People come from the towns surrounding Jerusalem.
They bring the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits.
They are all healed.

Acts 5:12–16

Acts 5:17–42 — We Must Obey God Rather Than Men

The high priest and Sadducees arrest the apostles.
An angel opens the prison and tells them: “Go back and teach.”
At daybreak they are again teaching in the temple.
The council says they have filled Jerusalem with their teaching.
Peter answers, “We must obey God rather than men.”
God raised Jesus, whom they had killed.
The apostles are witnesses.
Gamaliel warns: if this is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them.
The apostles are beaten and again ordered not to speak in Jesus’ name.
They leave rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer.
Every day they continue teaching and preaching Jesus.
